Finishing Out the Grouse Season in TN
Next week we’ll be in that well-known grouse capital…Tennessee. Yep, the Tennessee season is open through the last week in February, and since we’re unwilling to wait until October to beat ourselves silly again, we’re going to hoof it around the spring-like temps of the Smokies and try to get lucky. With the birds.
Brendan’s hunted Tennessee before and has had good success. Steep walking, but birds, and not in nearly impenetrable mountain laurel. Google Earth is showing us all kinds of clearcuts (drool).
However, TN ain’t exactly known for its grouse concentrations, and we’ve been getting reports of roads closed due to ice and snow – which should be gone when we get there, but the roads still might not be open. Gotta hoof it in.
A new wrinkle here is that we’ll be hauling along a cameraman to film some pilot footage for the Serious Bird Hunting TV show. You wouldn’t believe how tough it was to find a camera guy who’s in shape enough to keep up with two grouse hunters for 3 days! Luckily seems we found our man.

Keep us posted. I have heard its a waste of time down in this part of the world. I am just a few hours from the TN line. I have some friends that hike up there in the spring and they see lots of them. So either they are smarter and more evasive then yankee birds or my friends lie. lol Either way you have a mission.
