TruckVault and Scott Care: Do You?
Of course you care! One of the great things about bird hunting is that it’s tied to habitat and the hunting experience, notably our four-legged buds. It’s not just about hunting and keeping score like, for example, the whitetail scene.
A recently announced initiative by Scott Linden, host of the TV show Wingshooting USA, and TruckVault, one of his show’s sponsors, is a great example of this. Called “the largest television public service initiative in upland history” – TruckVault and Scott have created the “TruckVault Cares – About Conservation, Canines and Kids” program, which starts this week.
The program is simple: TruckVault and Scott himself have ponied up $10,000 for a fund that will be apportioned among six bird conservation, hunting and dog groups by vote. Our vote.
Go to www.truckvaultcares.com to vote for whether more of those dollars should go to:
- Ruffed Grouse Society
- International Hunter Education Association
- AKC Canine Health Foundation
- Scholastic Clay Target Program
- North American Grouse Partnership
- A nationwide coalition of hunting dog rescue clubs
Each group is represented at the site by a Labrador puppy, and voting is tracked by noting the amount of kibble in each puppy’s food bowl: Every vote sends a proportional amount of the $10,000 fund to the group’s treasury.
All voters are entered in a random drawing for prizes, including a TruckVault secure vehicle storage system, Fausti shotgun, Tri-Tronics electronic dog training collars, Linden’s own signature line of dog training gear, Kent Cartridge ammunition and Filson apparel. The initiative runs through March 2012.
Besides sharing in the funds raised, Scott noted all groups should benefit from heightened public awareness of their work.
Quick Q&A
Anyone who walks the walk is just plain cool. We wanted to know more, so we chased Scott down for a brief Q&A.
SBH: How did this initiative come about?
Scott: It’s time someone took the bull by the horns in the upland world, doing some good out there. I didn’t see it happening at the magazines, other TV shows or the networks, and I’m not one to stand around. A lot of groups are doing great work out there that need money and exposure to potential members and donors. I can help in those areas.
How long did it take to get it up and running?
I’ve been working on bits and pieces for years, with smaller-scale versions benefitting youths, rescued gun dogs, various non-profit groups. This one was a year in the making – organizing the beneficiary groups, finding a key sponsor (TruckVault) and lining out the logistics.
How did you put together the list of groups?
I looked at what I thought were the groups that needed the most help and were, frankly, a bit unsung. Some I’ve worked with in the past, others not. All are right in the upland hunting wheelhouse – where I eat, breathe and sleep.
Did any groups not participate that you were hoping would?
I tried real hard to convince Quail Unlimited. Same for the hunting retriever group and the Amateur Field Trial Association.
Do you have any goals for this, like doing it annually, widening the pool of beneficiaries, that kind of thing?
This is the first annual – I hope it will grow exponentially. As for more groups (or different ones), we’ll see!
